Getting more Google Reviews using an onsite checklist

Getting more Google Reviews using an onsite checklist

By Corey Hinde

Ranking well on Google is really important for local area businesses.

There are plenty of people searching Google daily for services and businesses in their area, and the “Map Pack” or “Google Business Profile” listings are a key tool that people use when making decisions.

The Grow My Business Blog has discussed how to get up your Google Business Profile previously HERE.

Once your Google Business Profile is set up correctly, one of the key things business owners need to do is get regular, relevant Google Reviews.

There are various ways to do this, however in this article we’ll talk about one particular idea that we’ve seen working very well for local area businesses, that require a “checklist” on site of some kind.

For example, something a Local Electrician might complete when arriving onsite to ensure the job is safe and completed with all the necessary gear.

Any business that has an onsite visit can use a variation of this idea.

Here is the crux of the idea – a health and safety checklist, with an additional “marketing add on” at the bottom… here is a sample from an arborist business we helped with this idea:

Above the “On-Site Safety” is the pre-safety section, equipment, personal protection equipment and basic site information.

The idea is that you and the client work through the checklist, and at the bottom you’ll see “Client Consent”.  That section, if given the all clear, will allow you to use photos and or videos for your marketing materials.

The QR code at the bottom when scanned will take people straight to the Google Review form.

This obviously won’t suit every business, or every client.  Some staff will feel uncomfortable using it as well, so be aware that it’s not for everyone.

However, in some businesses and situations, this will be a great tool that allows far more Google Reviews to come into the business, and this will help your business rank higher, stand out, and give potential customers far more reasons to pick YOUR business.

What we’ve found in our Local SEO consulting is that the more systems you can build that assist with marketing, the better your business will perform, allowing you to really Grow your business!

If you’d like a copy of the above checklist, here is a link to the Google Document – you have permission to copy and alter for your needs!

Here are some more ideas that will help you get and display more Google Reviews:

  • Install a Google Reviews widget on your website that both displays reviews, and encourages people to leave reviews.  Grow My Business can assist with this.
  • Incentivise your team to gather Google Reviews.
  • Rewrite your feedback email so it’s shorter and easier to act on.  Include your Google Review link in that email.
  • Use QR codes in various places to help people easily leave reviews.
  • Reach out personally to people seeking feedback about your business.  If they engage, ask for a review.
