Updating Your SEO Metadata using RankMath

Instructions:

SEO metadata is what appears when your website shows up in Google search results. This includes your SEO title, SEO description, and focus keyword.

This tutorial shows you how to update your SEO metadata using Rank Math.

Open your page settings

  1. Log in to your WordPress website.
  2. From the dashboard, go to Pages.
  3. Find the page you would like to update.
  4. Hover over the page and click Edit.

Open Rank Math

  1. In the top corner, find the Rank Math section.
  2. Click on the Rank Math icon.

You may also see Content AI. Ignore this section, as it is for content-related suggestions and is not needed for updating your SEO metadata.

Update your focus keyword

  1. Find the Focus Keyword section.
  2. Add your main SEO keyword.

For example:

Web Design Wellington

The keyword may show as red at first. This is okay. Rank Math uses this as a guide and it does not always mean something is wrong.

Update your SEO title

  1. Click Edit Snippet.
  2. Update your SEO title.

Your SEO title should include your main keyword and can also include information about your business.

For example:

  • Your main service.
  • Your location.
  • Your business name.

Update your SEO description

  1. Add your SEO meta description.
  2. Use the preview section as a guide.

The colour indicator will show whether your title and description are within a recommended length.

Try to keep your description clear and relevant to the page.

Do not change your permalink

The permalink is your page URL.

Do not change this section unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Changing URLs can cause broken links, so if you need to update one, get in touch with us first so we can set up redirects correctly.

Review Rank Math suggestions

After updating your metadata, Rank Math will give you an SEO score and suggestions.

You can use these recommendations as a guide to improve your page.

Avoid using the Fix with AI option unless needed. It is not required for updating your SEO metadata.

Save your changes

  1. Click Save in the top corner.
  2. Wait for the changes to finish saving.
  3. Go back to your pages.

Your SEO metadata has now been updated.

Keep in mind that Google can take a few days to update your search results. If your changes are still not showing after one to two weeks, get in touch with us and we can take a look.

Thank you so much.
